Black Mirror’s arrival on Netflix certainly made waves. Nosedive (S03E01) presents a world in which each individual is graded by their peers. The result is that women and men are no longer free and equal, instead they are ranked by their “likes”. Scary, right? But don’t worry. It’s only fiction. Except that… Since it was broadcast, China has been considering ranking citizens in terms of their personal data. In the US, the idea of having to declare your Facebook account at customs and in France, the TES mega-file are already creating tensions. So, is Black Mirror more prophetic or dystopic?
We set aside our fears and open up the debate with the specialists. And make sure you catch up on the episode before the session!
